statistics education

Statistics is about obtaining, organising, modelling, analysing, interpreting and communicating information in any situation or process that involves uncertainty and variation. Statistics is simultaneously a specialisation, an adjunct in developments in many other disciplines, and a component of effective functioning in society. In an increasingly information-rich and information-hungry world, with escalating demand for evidence-based decision-making, the need for statistics education continues to grow.

The past twenty years have seen significant reform, innovations and research in statistics education. But increasing technological capabilities, the extent and diversity of the roles of statistics, and the challenges inherent to its nature, combine to make the teaching of statistics across all educational levels and disciplines a formidable task.

A forum entitled “Building Networks in Statistical Education” held in Brisbane in February, 2009, lead to the development of this website for collaboration, advancement and promotion of statistics education in Australia and New Zealand.
